China nuclear contractor seeks merger with CPIC
2014-7-21

China’s State Nuclear Power Technology Corp. (SNPTC) submitted plans to merge with China Power Investment Corp. (CPIC).

The merger plan had been submitted to China’s Assets Supervision and Administration of the State Council. SNPTC said that Unit 1 at the Sanmen nuclear power plant would be delayed another two years and not begin operations before the end of 2015. The delay is reportedly due to the Chinese government requiring a safety reassessment following the Fukushima Daiichi accident in 2011 and design delays by Westinghouse.

SNPTC was formed in 2007 to assimilate the Westinghouse AP1000 reactor technology and to develop China’s version, the CAP1400 technology. The company began work on four AP1000 reactors at the Sanmen and Haiyang nuclear power plants in China.
